Product Review - Make Up For Ever High Definition Foundation

Finding the perfect foundation is like trying to find a good guy in a club full of assholes who only wanna bump and grind. They either don't last or they're terribly unsuitable for your type.

I'm always in between shades when it comes to picking foundation, either too pink or too yellow. I love Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada. They sell everything from Lancome to Smashbox to Benefit to Vichy, and of course the cheaper, lower end brands like Revlon and Loreal. There, the beauty consultants don't work for specific brands so they give you honest, unbiased advise based on your beauty needs and don't try to force anything you don't like on you.

Since coming back to Singapore, not only have I been struggling with the right products suitable for my skin, I now have to find products to deal with climate and sweat control. My latest favourite buy is the Maybelline Angelfit Porezerobase but the BB creams I had (Skin Food and BRTC Jasmine Water) made me look pasty white when paired with it so I was once again on the market looking for the perfect foundation.

I always bring Da Bi along with me so that he can give me the unbiased opinion of how foundation looks on me when I try it on. Only place I had in mind was Sephora at Ion Orchard, the world's 2nd largest location in the world. We stepped in and the glaring white lights hit us. Da Bi mentioned that it was make-up heaven and I totally agree. You see tubs of luxurious moisturizers, jars of cool creams, bottles of coloured liquids, tubes of delicious glosses, pots of shimmery shadows, it was endless.

I hold my breath as I tour the humongous store and finally stop at a beauty consultant whose made up face I like, coz seriously if the person I'm seeking advise from looks like a drugged up crack whore, would I trust him/her to make me up?? I tell her I am looking for a foundation and she directs me to the Make Up For Ever section.

She introduces me to their Make Up For Ever High Definition Foundation from France for my oily, acne prone skin. Apparently this brand is used by professionals who use the products on stars and artists because it does very well withstanding harsh lighting and the elements. A thought bubble pops in my head and I verbalize it - porn stars use them to cover their blemishes so that the technology of HD does not showcase the angry red zits on their butts!

I bring my primer along and tell her to test the product on me with it. After prepping my face for the foundation, she uses a single pump of it with a flat foundation brush. It is a breeze to put on. The consistency is easy to handle and the coverage excellent. I do not have to use any concealer on my scars or marks. If more coverage is needed, layering is an easy feat but since I prefer my make up to be light, I am fine with just 1 layer. It is a flawless, natural finish. The beauty of the HD foundation is that it 'heightens the diffusion of light and intensifies the glow of the skin.'

Verdict: My foundation lasted all day...with no touch ups. After a day of perspiring, it was not streaky or cakey. I think I am in luuurve....GO GET YOURS TODAY!

PLUS POINT - it is is oil free and dermatologist tested!

Came in a sleek no nonesense bottle with a pump. Only a very small amount is needed for the entire face.

Loving my foundation...

Product Review - Maybelline Angelfit Porezerobase

Janice is a beauty product junkie. She introduced me to Maybelline Angelfit Porezerobase, if she hadn't, I probably wouldn't have tried it in a million years. I'm a make-up snob that way, I don't buy drug store brands usually and think nothing of splurging a couple hundred dollars on better known cosmetics. This product has changed my mind.

When I first saw Janice use it, she was smoothing it on her face like moisturizer so I thought it was just moisturizer. It piqued my interest when 10 minutes later, she was still doing the same and her face was literally glowing at this point. It brightened her face and gave her a healthy radiant glow instantly. The kind of glow you get after an intense sex romp in the hay. I was sold.

Picked a tube of it up from Watsons at $19.90, although you can get it at 24 hour Mustafa Centre at $17.90. Wasn't very crazy about the packaging. I mean the brand is from New York, but it's made in China and all the product info is in Japanese!! I couldn't read anything on it so was none too pleased since I pride myself in making informed choices. I took the leap of faith and decided to try it anyways.

The pinkish iridescent liquid has a runny texture which makes for easy blending. Janice used her fingers to blend it in but I found it easier with a flat foundation brush. The minute it goes on my skin, I notice the illuminating effect and how it evens out my skin tone. My pores are diminished and I love the non-greasy feeling on my skin. There is hardly a scent, maybe a mild floral one which I hardly noticed. Plus point, it has SPF 25.

The Maybelline Angelfit Porezerobase can be used as a primer under foundation and on days when I feel lazy or don't need too much coverage, I just use it on its own and dab concealer on my dots and scars. Then a layer of loose powder will suffice.

On days that I do require more coverage, I wear it as a primer. I started using it with my BRTC Jasmine Water BB Cream, which is a bad combination for my skin. BRTC has wonderful coverage but is waaaaay too light for my skin tone. Angelfit already has brightening properties so combining the two was absolutely disastrous. I looked like I was ready for the Hungry Ghost Festival with a white mask on.

I went out in search of the perfect foundation/BB cream tone for myself. Alas, I could not find a BB cream that was dark enough for me so had to settle for a fabulous foundation I picked up at Sephora. I will review it in a later post.

This latter combination is a dream. My skin is literally an oil rig, which is also prone to acne and break outs but while I had the primer and foundation on, with loose powder to set it, I didn't have to blot all day coz there was no shine, just a dewy finish. Also, I didn't have to touch up with pressed powder either, even on days when I was sweating most ungraciously in the sweltering heat of Singapore. My pores didn't feel clogged even thought my make up was still on my face at the end of the day.

Verdict: the Maybelline Angelfit Porezerobase is a wet dream and MUST BE tried.

Go out and get yours today.

Product Review - Garnier Aqua Defense Eye Roll-On

I was at Watsons the other day and saw the Garner Aqua Defense Eye Roll-on on the shelf, thought I'll try it out and write a review on it. The magic ingredient in it is caffeine, which is 'well known for its stimulating properties on micro-circulation". Its energizing effect apparently reduces eye bags and dark circles.

Here's my unbiased take on it.

The product is packaged in a nifty little pen with a silver metal ball at the end. It rolls on easily on my eye contours without dragging on the skin. The metal ball is smooth and cool and the transparent liquid dries quickly. It makes my eyes feel refreshed but does not have much of a massaging effect. Maybe it's coz I didn't wanna drag the metal ball over my eyes too much, for fear of creating wrinkles.

After using it for 3 days, I did notice that my eye bags are not as noticeable and that my eyes don't look as tired as before. It could be due to the sheer amount of sleep I've been bagging now that my contract is over.

Janice has mentioned that the product doesn't work on her but I guess it works differently on other folks. Then again, Janice has no eye bags...only bags she has are those hanging on her arm.
LOOK at Janice! NO BAGS!

Not enough product and ingredient info in ENGLISH on the package. Alot of it was in Chinese, which lost me on the 2nd character.
Convenient pen-like packaging with easy contours to hold on to.
The cool silver metal ball dispenses the product generously.

It's not a MUST BUY, but worth trying it out for the good price.
Out searching for more cool things to try...
